Oystercatcher bird Lino Print. ‘Nesting’ is an original Lino Print by Artist and Printmaker, Collette Howie. The eggs of oystercatchers have colour and marks which ensure  they blend in with the rocks and pebbles of the beach.  Therefore providing camouflage from potential predators.
This edition of Lino prints uses  Lokta paper and Japanese Okawara washi paper.  I paint each orange beak using Sennelier watercolour paints. I use Caligo relief ink which has a linseed base and is friendlier towards the environment due to the base.
Oystercatchers are more common in the East Ayrshire surroundings now than ever before. Â This Oystercatcher bird Lino Print draws inspiration from a pair who regularly nest at the local primary school five minutes from my door.
Lokta paper is beautifully textured and natural. It is handmade in Nepal by local makers from the sustainable Lokta bush.
Okawara paper is a strong, yet light Japanese Washi paper made in the Awagami factory by artisan makers.
