A Superb Owl
This month I have a new lino print and drypoint print to share with you. My lino print is called ‘A Superb Owl’ after a hilarious episode of the comedy ‘What We Do in the Shadows’, and is based on some drawings I have been making obsessively of owls. I may have mentioned before that I frequently hear an owl or two in the huge tree in our back garden. It is a strangely reassuring noise that makes me feel comfortable and at ease. Knowing that the owls are always there no matter what.
This lino print itself is A4 size on different sizes of paper. It is hand-carved then hand burnished by myself in Black Caligo Relief Ink. There is one available on off-white Lokta paper measuring 15 x 20.5 inches overall. Lokta paper is handmade in Nepal. It is sustainably made from the inner bark of shrubs and bushes. I am printing an open edition of the owl on Zerkall smooth printmaking paper. I have two currently available measuring 12 x 15.5 inches but can print more to order. This is a lovely, smooth thick German printmaking paper.

A peaceful walk
I recently started using Aluminium as a surface for making my drypoint prints. It gives a lovely background tone to my prints. I had a small offcut of aluminum I thought would be nice to try creating a drypoint of one of my favorite trees from one of my favorite walks. This drypoint called ‘A peaceful walk’ is printed on Snowdon printmaking paper using black Caligo etching ink and my own mix of blue-black etching ink. There are 2 black versions (one measures 8 x 4.5″ and the other 8 x 6″)available and 2 blue-blacks (both measure 8 x 6 inches). They will be going on sale in my Etsy shop on 1st Feb 2022 for £30 but are available to subscribers until this date for £27.
